SUMMARY:Rucio: Scientific Data Management
DESCRIPTION:Dimitrios Christidis (CERN)\n\nThe management of scientific da
ta is a complex task, especially when they are distributed across geograph
ically-dispersed and heterogeneous storages. Rucio was developed originall
y for the needs of the high-energy physics experiment ATLAS, running at th
e Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. With over a decade of successful op
eration and actively managing over one exabyte of data, Rucio has proven t
o be scalable and performant. Thanks to its design, features, and strong c
ommunity support, numerous other scientific collaborations, both in the ar
ea of high-energy physics and beyond, have chosen to adopt Rucio for their
data-management needs. This talk aims to be an introduction to Rucio, exp
laining its fundamental concepts and describing some of its key features.\
n\nDomain: Climate, Weather, and Earth Sciences, Engineering, Physics, Com
putational Methods and Applied Mathematics\n\nSession Chairs: Maria Girone
(CERN), Valerio Pascucci (University of Utah), and Michela Taufer (Univer
 sity of Tennessee)\n\n
