SUMMARY:Supercomputer-Based Multi-Physics and the Virtual Human Twin
DESCRIPTION:Caterina Balzotti and Mariano Vazquez (ELEM Biotech)\n\nThe us
e of virtual human twins, powered by supercomputer-based multi-physics sim
ulations, enables efficient and safe exploration of complex biomedical phe
nomena. These digital replicas integrate high-fidelity physics-based model
s to capture the complex interactions governing human physiology, offering
new possibilities for understanding diseases and personalizing treatments
. In this talk, we present our framework for high-fidelity cardiac modelin
g, which integrates electrophysiology, mechanics, and blood flow dynamics
across multiple scales. Using the high-performance finite element solver A
lya, developed at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center jointly with ELEM Bi
otech, we demonstrate how these comprehensive models can be personalized w
ith patient data to create virtual human populations. Our methodology enab
les a detailed investigation of cardiac function in both healthy and patho
logical conditions, providing a powerful platform for diverse clinical app
lications, from evaluating the cardiac safety of drugs to analyzing how sp
ecific diseases influence the heart’s electromechanical behavior.\n\nDomai
