Student Travel Grants

SIGHPC is generously sponsoring travel grants for four undergraduate or graduate students to attend PASC25. Two applicants traveling from within Europe and two applicants traveling from another continent will be selected. The students traveling from within Europe will be awarded a maximum grant of $600, and a maximum allowance of $1400 will be given to the selected students traveling from other continents. Moreover, PASC25 will cover the corresponding registration fee for the selected students.

SIGHPC and PASC25 will favour students who submitted a contribution to PASC25; however, this is not a requirement of the award.

Applications are due by March 30, 2025, with notification provided by April 30, 2025.

To apply, you must provide the following:

  • personal information
  • simple budget (estimated amount for travel and for accommodation, and, if necessary, how do you plan to bridge the gap between the money covered by the grant and the expected extra costs)
  • statement of why you wish to attend PASC25 and what benefits you can gain from participating
  • letter of support from your advisor or head of department (referencing any institutional support or recognition that will be provided)

Please click here to access the application form.

To apply, fill-in the application form and send your letter of support (in PDF format) from the same email address entered on the form to info@pasc-conference.org. Please indicate “PASC25 Student Travel Grant” as a subject line.

Selected students will be assigned a mentor for PASC25 who will help them get the most out of the conference by suggesting relevant program sessions and introducing them to experts in their research field.

Impressions from the PASC24 Student Travel Grant recipients

“As a SIGHPC Travel Grant recipient, Student Volunteer, and Session Chair, I had the distinct honor of experiencing PASC24 from multiple vantage points. Throughout the conference, I engaged with researchers from various fields and observed the latest advancements in high performance computing. The event surpassed all of my expectations, providing a wealth of knowledge through its presentations, workshops, and discussions. PASC24 offered a unique opportunity to network with both experts in my field and specialists from complementary disciplines. I am deeply appreciative of the community I found there and am eager to continue my work, enriched by the new connections I have made.”  Jamil Gafur (University of Iowa)

I am very grateful to have received a SIGHPC Travel Grant. Attending PASC has become one of the most memorable moments of my career thus far! The conference was full of thought-provoking interdisciplinary topics, and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to attend a variety of talks. I also appreciated the chance to deliver my own talk and share my research with a diverse audience. Likewise, I am thankful for the mentorship opportunity and the invaluable connections I made with both industry and academic researchers at the conference. Thank you!” Rachel Luu (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

“Attending PASC24 was highly valuable for my research project and PhD: We are developing novel numerical algorithms for Earth system models, so networking with model developers at the poster session helped me make sure that our contributions are relevant. The theme of PASC24 really emphasized paradigm shifts in scientific computing (i.e., the move towards Exascale and Machine Learning) and allowed me to engage in discussions on requirements and challenges of multidisciplinary research. I am extremely grateful for the financial support and for my mentor’s guidance during the conference.”  Valentina Schüller (Lund University)
